Juan Reyes Mejía-González, born 18 November 1975 in Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas, is a Mexican drug lord known by the alias R1. He was a high-ranking member of the Gulf Cartel and allegedly led the Los Rojos faction. Seen as the cartel’s second-in-command, he managed cocaine trafficking routes from Central and South America to northern Mexico. In March 2008, he was indicted in Washington, D.C., and listed as a most-wanted fugitive by U.S. authorities. He allegedly ordered the assassination of rival faction leader Samuel Flores Borrego on 2 September 2011, sparking violent infighting. The Metros faction ultimately prevailed in early 2012, and Mejía-González has not been seen or heard from since.
